Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Derived from the teachings of K. Pattabhi Jois
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is an ancient discipline that represents the most traditional form of Hatha Yoga. This approach is based on synchronising breathing and movement. The practice of this harmonious and dynamic method lends itself to a psychophysical well being, a strong, flexible, light body as well as a calm and concentrated mind.
Personal insights begin to reveal themselves when this method unites correct breathing (Ujjayi Pranayama) with postures (asanas) and the point of focus (dristi).
"Vinyasa" is the marriage of breath and movement. Breathing is the heart of this discipline and must not be ignored during practice. When the breathing is regulated, it guarantees good blood circulation. Throughout the practice the breathing must continue to be uniform and profound.
The breathing nourishes the action which in turn nourishes the posture. Every movement flows precisely and becomes perfectly stable, linking the asanas, one after another, in a strict order. Synchronised movement and breathing, along with engaging Mula and Uddiyana Bandhas (locking), produce an intense warmth within the body. This warmth purifies the muscles, aids in the internal organs beginning to eliminate toxins, allows hormonal benefits and nourishes the body with mineral salts.
